The Session

In Presbyterian ecclesiastical circles, the term is a familiar one.  It is the name given to the ruling body of elders of a church.   But “the session” also references a Christological tenet contained in and recited regularly from The Creed.  “He is seated at the right hand of the Father.  From thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead . . . “

We often speak of the Crucifixion and the Resurrection – those essential actions which accomplish our salvation from sin and death.  And yet, we live today and everyday under his “session.”  He reigns with the Father, seated above all powers.  The Spirit moves among us and the world is under His rule.

The Devil, defeated, is permitted his role to pester us as acontribution to God’s plan to sanctify His people in reformation of the world.

Do you believe in the Session?  He sits. He reigns. 

In Presbyterian circles, the title is given to the rulingelders in the government of the church, but as a Christological doctrine, it is not commonly heard in Christianparlance.  It ought to be!

The crucifixion and the resurrection of Jesus of Nazarethare facts.  The ascension was less public though it wasobserved by a crowd of His followers and, as such, it was a public event.   But the session of Christ was not somethingwe see directly.  The evidence of hisreign is in the His Church.  And it isour duty as members of it to make His session visible to the world.  He makes His rule known now by His reignamong His people, the Church.
