Citizenship

In history was something you were born into, Or that you earned. It was not something that you claimed! It is a status that we, Americans, take for granted; We are accustomed to the status of a citizen Who has precious, blood-bought rights, And we bask in this condition as drunkards Unaware of its origins or its providers. Spoiled brats living off the lush provision of others, We whine about any reduction in our comfort level. What sick puppies indeed we have become Wallowing in the fruit of another’s labor, Ungrateful of the grace of others and the Savior! Time will come when we are called to account For our squandering and ignoring of that Fount Of all our provisions and blessings from above Poured down from the One with infinite love.
