“Freedom!”

It is a seductive proclamation. 

When one hears it trumpeted, his attention is expected and he is inclined to affirm whatever the proclaiming voice is advocating. 

Who can oppose “freedom”?  Isn’t it “all good”?

Of course not.  Freedom to practice manstealing is not good.  Freedom to butcher babies is not good.  Freedom to sin is not good!

“Restraint!” might be a better mantra.   Got more negative than positive commands in the Big Ten.  Indeed, it is oft-repeated advice from the Apostles. 

Indeed, we who have been delivered from the bondage of sin are free people.  And that freedom is more valuable than any other we may find in this world.   We are freed from domination by our sin natures.  By His Spirit, we may walk in newness of life.   We are liberated – to be bound to Him and to follow Him wherever He leads.
