Jephthah was the son of a whore. He knew life was so much more And he was real good at war. Gilead was the daddy o’ that boy And let his wife kick the boy right out. He fled from his brothers and went to Tob And found a lot of worthless friends. But when war came They wanted him back again! [v. 5] “Come and be our chief and beat Ammon!” Jephthah said, “You threw me out! Now you need me! What about?” Said, “We got to beat up on Ammon! “You’re the boss! Come on!” Said, “Okay, we can agree Of you the boss I’m gonna be!” [v. 9] “Okay,” said the elders of Gilead “The Lord is a witness. You’ll be our head!” So Jeph sent a note to the King of Ammon. Said, “Why you wanna fight me for land?” “‘Cause Israel done stole it long ago [v. 12] When they came up from Egypt. Don’t ya know? And what they took, we gonna overthrow. That’s how it go! You reap what ya sow!”
