Let Your Freak Flag Fly (Redux)

“Almost Cut My Hair . . .” CSN & Y!  It was quite a hit About bucking the norms.  Fine. But what about moral norms? Law? Justice!  Truth!  Were there such To be honored and left to stand? Yes, there were!  There are! The Law of God says “No!” to sodomy And the murder of the unborn. You don’t do what you feel Like doing in such matters. Feel like letting your freak flag fly? Want to be a sodomite or change your sex? Forget it!  Not what the song is about! (And if it was, it was wrong!) We have much liberty, under Law! The Law of God. And we are free to do all That He does not forbid. That’s a lot; the negative commands are few: No murder.  No adultery or fornication. No theft, no blasphemy, no coveting What belongs to others. No lying against another. Liberty is great and plentiful! Go surfing.  Start a business. Move to another country. Pursue an acting career. Travel. Make money.  Give money away! Benefit others.  Get married. Rear up good children. Run for political office. Stay single and do radical service Or adventure. How about letting your freak flag fly And do something extraordinarily good?! Help your neighbor who lost his job. Put someone up in your house. Help a refugee.  Write a prisoner. Visit a prisoner.  Say hello to a stranger! Commit some random act of kindness. Strengthen your church! Let your freak flag fly! Be a real Jesus freak. Such is the Spirit of God Operating in the finite bodies Of mortal human beings! It wants to break out Beyond the confines of this life. There is more, even beyond The beauties of this earth. There is God.  There is heaven. Through Jesus, you can get there. Freedom!  Liberty! Do your own thing! Indeed, we have been delivered by God From the bondage of sin and death. We are free – not to sin – but to live for And to honor Him.  Yes, free to do that For which we were designed.
