“Lord, Show Us Your Glory”?

The Vertical Church Band sings a song called “Open Up The Heavens” where a call for God to show His power is sung out with joy and enthusiasm.   

Yes, open up the heavens We want to see you Open up the floodgates A mighty river Flowing from your heart Filling every part of our praise Show us, show us your glory Show us, show us your power Show us, show us your glory, Lord We want to see you, Lord A miracle is desired – some display of Himself – which satisfies the desire to see Him.  We like evidence and assurance and the confidence that such a display brings.  

Understandable!  We are cruising through rough waves on this stormy ocean which has been stirred up since the fall way back in the Garden.

The Truth came to us, God in the flesh, and He conquered death due us for our sin.  He demonstrated –  by many miracles,, highlighted by his own resurrection – that He was the Messiah and not just a fine fellow martyred for some righteous cause. 

He showed us His power. 

Our task, as His church, is to do works in His stead.  Each church has the task of being His body in its own neighborhood.  We are to serve the weak, to stand for truth, to advance justice, and to preach the good news of salvation.

Our duty is to be His body and carry out the task of re-presenting Him to the neighborhood.  How well is your church serving the neighborhood: proclaiming the truth, standing for justice, ministering to the weak and poor?
