On Elli’s Birthday

Forty years ago we didn’t want any! Hard to think on it now with plenty, And yet the start is always with that one And she did bring lots of fun Breaking that ice and leading the way For all to follow in her sway. Yes, there is that influence, good or bad, And it was surely good that we had From our firstborn who loved her sibs! Helped wipe faces and straighten bibs She set the pace for sibling life Soothing sisters and relieving strife And many-a night we would wonder What will happen with our blunder? Had no plans for a family Just for ourselves, Jayne and me. But Lord knows what He has in store; No one can imagine more. And we are glad you led the way By good example from day to day. And His peace be with you another year. We will always hold you dear. Mom and Dad
