On “Violence” As Distinguished From “Force”

When we speak of the “use of force,” we may count it a good thing or a bad one, depending upon the circumstances.  Was force used to prevent or halt an evil?  Was it used to commit an evil?

Was it military violence which conquered the Nazis?  Is it police violence which guns down a church-bombing terrorist?

A husband who passionately – even vigorously – makes loves to his wife does no violence.  A rapist, however gentle, does violence to a woman.

Someone who blows up an abortuary (which saves the lives of babies) does no violence.  He, rather, provides life-saving service.

Get it straight and avoid slandering those who bomb abortuaries or terminate abortionists.
