The Importance of the “Breaking of the Bread”

However you may regard the Supper, its significance may have been displayed by an array of responses to the “pandemic.”  Our Church of Christ (along with others, it seems) opted to make church assembly available “on line” for those who might enjoy fellowship with others via a computer screen.  Hmm. Feed the poor, help the lame, and  break the bread via “computer screen”?  Well, maybe somewhat, sometimes, but. . .  

Ah, heresies come in various forms in different times.  This action veers toward that ever-irritating Gnosticism where the physical resurrection was covered up with all kinds of imaginary schemes.  Getting physical, like having babies, requires real people and a real exchange of human devotion. 

The gathering of God’s people is a physical one where people see and serve one another – and  break real bread and drink real wine.  No fake stuff.  Nothing watered down or diluted.

Let the churches of God deal with the real flesh and blood, the real gathering of God’s people, real service of one another, and real obedience to Him who came down and had fellowship with filthy, diseased, sin-ridden people.
