“This Is My Body”!

“This is my body”! said Jesus.  Not, “This is my covenant sign”!

Come, Presbys, all the way to Luther!   The incarnation of God into the world through the Son was a miracle which stayed with us, by the power of the Holy Spirit.  He rose, indeed from the dead, and then the Spirit was sent by the Father and the Son to indwell His people, the church.  He is HERE with us, indeed.  To eat and drink at the table is to imbibe life.  And to drink the blood and eat the body unworthily is to drink judgment upon oneself.

Yes, we will all fully understand someday – when we are risen with Him.   In the meantime, stick with His words:  “This is my body”!

The incarnated and ever-living Son is with us in the Supper.
