To Be Ruled By Elders

The church was to be ruled by elders Not a pastor, don’t you see? ‘Twas always a better way To avoid, you know, a monarchy. You can see it throughout the scriptures, But it seems people pay them no mind. Rather make it all nice and easy To whine at one, the many, all the time. How often down through the ages Did the people say, “Give us a king!”? (It’s just regular decadent human kind o’ thing.) But best to keep decentralized and Biblical: The center being only God’s Word. Keeping us from all kinds o’ heresy And other things just as absurd. But, somehow we want responsibility Narrowed down to just one man, So we can rail and whine at one person Not a committee or a deacon board.
